Public Image Limited - The Flowers Of Romance (81 ^ 84mb)

Public Image Ltd. (PiL) originally was a quartet led by singer John Lydon (formerly Johnny Rotten, born January 31, 1956) and guitarist Keith Levene, who had been a member of the Clash in one of its early lineups. The band was filled out by bassist Jah Wobble (John Wordle) and drummer Jim Walker. It was formed in the wake of the 1978 breakup of Lydon's former group, the Sex Pistols. For the most part, it devoted itself to droning, slow-tempo, bass-heavy noise rock, overlaid by Lydon's distinctive, rant. The group's debut single, "Public Image," was more of an up-tempo pop/rock song, however, and it hit the U.K. Top Ten upon its release in October 1978. The group itself debuted on Christmas Day, shortly after the release of its first album, Public Image.

Metal Box, the band's second U.K. album, came in the form of three 12", 45 rpm discs in a film canister. It was released in the U.S. in 1980 as the double-album Second Edition. (By this time, PiL was a trio consisting of Lydon, Levene, and Wobble.) The third album, not released in the U.S., was the live Paris au Printemps (1980). Lydon and Levene, plus hired musicians, made up the group by the time of The Flowers of Romance (1981). In 1983, PiL scored its biggest U.K. hit, when "This Is Not a Love Song" , by this time, however, Levene had left, and the name from here on would be, more than anything else, a vehicle for John Lydon .

The following year saw the release of This Is What You Want...This Is What You Get, only PiL's third album to be released in the U.S., though it now had six albums out. It marked the start of Lydon's move toward a more accessible dance-rock style, a direction that would be pursued further in Album (1986) as well as on Happy? (1987) and 9 (1989). In 1990, PiL released the compilation album The Greatest Hits, So Far, and in 1991 came the new album That What Is Not. After completing his memoirs in late 1993, Lydon decided to put an end to PiL and pursue a solo career.

The Psychedelic Furs - Talk Talk Talk ( 81 ^ 95mb)

The Psychedelic Furs, whose name belies their punk-influenced music, were formed in England in 1977 by brothers Richard Butler (vocals) and Tim Butler (bass), along with saxophone player Duncan Kilburn and guitarist Roger Morris. By the time they released their self-titled debut album in 1980, the group had become a sextet, adding guitarist John Ashton and drummer Vince Ely. That album, featuring Butler's hoarse voice was a successful in England.

Talk Talk Talk (1981) did better, produced two British singles chart entries, one of which was "Pretty in Pink," later also a hit in the U.S. when a new version was used as the title song of a film. Forever Now (1982) saw the band reduced to a quartet with the departure of Kilburn and Morris. The rest moved to the U.S., turned to producer Todd Rundgren, Ely left, and the remaining trio of the two Butlers and Ashton made Mirror Moves (1984), the biggest Psychedelic Furs hit yet.

The film Pretty in Pink helped spread their name further before the release of their next album, Midnight to Midnight (1987), which consequently got good sales. Book of Days (1989) marked the return of Vince Ely, but was a considerable commercial disappointment. World Outside (1991) also failed to find an audience. The Psychedelic Furs then folded up shop, and Richard Butler launched a new group, Love Spit Love.

Beautiful Chaos, a live album capturing some of the band's greatest hits from the 2001 revival tour, was issued in November 2001. Their first live album ever, Beautiful Chaos was a gift for the loyalists. It also introduced their first new song in almost ten years, a somber ballad entitled "Alive."

John Cooper Clarke - Me And My Big Mouth (81^ 95mb)

Often referred to as "the bard of Salford", he usually refers to himself on stage as "Johnny Clarke, the name behind the hairstyle". In the summer of 1979, when London's Comedy Store became Britain's first alternative comedy club, John Cooper Clarke was already on the front cover of NME. Clarke has opened for such acts as the Sex Pistols, The Fall, Joy Division, Buzzcocks and Elvis Costello and his set was, and still is on occasion, characterized by lively, rapid-fire renditions of his poems, which were usually performed a cappella. Clarke has often been unfairly pigeonholed as a punk poet, and although his poems do describe a similar inner-city landscape in a comparably spare and streetwise style, his importance as a writer and performer stretches far beyond the finite boundaries of seventies New Wave. Clarke's rat-a-tat rhymes are far funnier than the throwaway gags of almost any stand-up, and his dispassionate fast-forward delivery gives them a momentum that's as invigorating as the purest pop music. Yet on the printed page, his perfect couplets often seem far more wistful, as silent readers are suddenly struck by their true literary worth, which puts them right up there with Britain's finest popular verse. Ten Years In An Open Necked Shirt, first published in 1983, remains a masterful slim volume, featuring such high-rise classics as Kung Fu International and I Married A Monster From Outer Space.

01 - (I Married A) Monster From Outer Space (3:34)

The milky way she walks around
All feet firmly off the ground
Two worlds collide, two worlds collide
Here comes the future bride
Gimme a lift to the lunar base
I wanna marry a monster from outer space

I fell in love with an alien being
whose skin was jelly - whose teeth were green
she had the big bug eyes and the death-ray glare
feet like water wings - purple hair
I was over the moon - I asked her back to my place
then I married the monster - from outer space

The days were numbered - the nights were spent
in a rent free furnished oxygen tent........
